Movement Analysis

Laban Movement Analysis (LMA) is a system of structural and dynamic concepts developed by movement and dance theorist Rudolf Laban (1879–1958). It was further developed in the USA by his student and physical therapist Irmgard Bartenieff (1890-1981), with Bartenieff Fundamentals as her own approach to re-educating the body.
LMA allow us to understand and organize ideas about movement, enabling us to speak to others about what we see, both in a simplified manner and a holistic fashion. Through LMA one learns how movement connects us to ourselves and other human beings, and how movement is a way of knowing in all of life.
A Certified Movement Analyst can provide you with a better understanding of self, regarding your movement preferences, your use of Space, Weight, Time and Flow, your body attitudes, and how you choose to use movement to communicate with others and the world around you. It has been used by environments ranging from factories, corporate offices, dance studios and in therapeutic settings. This method of movement analysis is also a wonderful tool for dancers who want to explore their qualitative and performance range in dance. Movement Analysis is done on an individual basis, using videotaped footage of the person in a setting which represents best their environment.
Private analysis is possible at the Conservatorio of Danza de Panama, situated in Ciudad Del Saber, as well as in NYC, at intermittent times during the year.
